Passion and playfulness easily reach fever pitch when planets traverse the zodiacal sign of the theatrical and artistic Lion – just as the personal planets are presently doing. With a hot and fiery Leo Sun, Venus, Mercury, influential asteroid Juno, AND Mars, now upping daily drama all-the-while exuding a fierce inspiration that can also inspire joyful action, a warm heart and affectionate relations; as Leo ignites the creative spark within to connect with one’s inner child (as well as with children) for fun-packed activities, so talents and gifts can be explored and expressed. Essentially, making light of life and being with loved ones and friends and gathering under decidedly quirky Aquarian Full Moon beams (and shooting stars if you’re lucky) could be an extremely satisfying and entertaining cosmic order. 

Our dynamic, life-giving Sun rules the zodiac sign Leo. So that when the Sun is at home in the regal Lion, the Heart Spirit is strengthened with courage and a centring cosmic ‘Light of Intelligence’. Sol’s light radiates a magical power so powerful that it can boost confidence and fuel an awareness of one-self that is mindful of our individual consciousness and what makes us feel happy and alive. 

We are all energised by the Sun. And as the Solar Leonine Spirit projects an intense spotlight upon personal affairs, especially those matters of the heart and self-expression; the Aquarian Full Moon illuminates the need for freedom in love and romance, as well as the freedom to be individual by having one’s own ideas and emotions, particularly within groups of people, yet always aware of the unique gifts we bring to the greater whole. 

Self love is also important. But not in an ego-maniac kind of way. More like loving and taking care of yourself is necessary before loving and taking care of others. Yet this mega Leo influence can be overbearing for some , as the Lion’s majestic manner can work pomp and ceremony to the max and escalate pride – even when undeserved: Leo can bestow solid self-belief and self-confidence. In either innocence or ignorance Leo can also hog the limelight and thoughtlessly overshadow everyone with his or her own artistic license, which is usually perfomed with style and pizzazz. 

☆ Bear in mind that quite apart from relationship planets circulating the sign of the solar system’s beating heart, as Leo accents how love makes the world go around, issues of loyalty and trust, freedom and fairness, humanity and humanitarian, could still also arise. One of the greatest challenges is to now embrace Leo’s ardent fieriness, at the same time keep an emotionally cool Aquarian view.

☆ Emotional detachment is preferable to see clearly who we love, who loves us, and which of our friends are part of the ‘go-to team’; as well as those out to rip, clip, and zip plans, people and ideas for their own advantage. Dynamic Mars leads the Leo planets with Regulus, the brilliant fixed star which indicates success is only guaranteed by keeping integrity intact. And in these highly competitive technologically interconnected days, we are witnessing quite a few whose scruples can be called into question.

While we may find a place in our heart that allows us to forgive those who transgress, to let go and move on, the Sun with Venus indicates how ethics and principles are far more valuable than showing off a latest conquest.

When the Sun is conjunct Venus (on a mighty powerful Venus star point!) matters of the heart can take on a positive spin, particularly over this Full Moon, as the spirit of love infiltrates the soul in a seemingly reckless and anarchic way.

Seriously. This is a wake-up-and-smell-the-coffee Full Moon and recognise how strong the power of love is when shared with humanity. This is also when love can be found in an instant – and when you least expect it. In a startling moment of looking into someone’s eyes, for instance, anyone’s eyes, friend or foe, lover or stranger, animal, insect or person, you could suddenly be jolted out of the permeable ego bubble to recognise the light of his or her consciousness, too. With such an encounter much can be revealed in the blink of the eye, showing especially what we truly value within, as well as what we think of others. These are the very moments the heartmind has a choice: to be generous and let the love-light of consciousness connect, or to close-down and turn away. Try and stay open to remain in your natural flow.

Either way, fear or greed can make living beings do crazy things. So be aware that while you may be busily spouting romantic poetry singing the praises of universal love, sweet love, there are others less so inclined, and are stuck thinking they need to prove themselves in any means necessary. Indeed, they may be bound by animal instinct.

Should you find yourself staring into the orbs of a (metaphoric) large Leo lion, however, who is charging towards you at forty miles an hour, it’s perfectly acceptable to not to feel the need for magical connections; and you would probably do well to hold your ground to pacify, whilst puffing-up to roar louder and look bigger than said threat. Even so, the love may still be there. 

☆ With the all-controlling Saturn, South Node and Pluto in Capricorn still holding on to a retrograde course and backwards thinking, it may well be in the few days before the Full Moon, when the Moon occults the currently extremely charismatic Saturn and stubborn South Node for the sixth time in a series of nine, that we begin to realistically note the obvious mountain of obstacles facing us individually and collectively; and how solutions resolutions are being blocked by that or those which feel entitled to do so. But at least we are now halfway through this gruelling series which seems to wreak of deja-vu, so that many are understanding the difficulties that lie ahead in the coming years, all of which the futuristic and globally aware Aquarian Full Moon now reflects. 

☆ Sensitive Luna also makes a fabulous Quintile (72°) to Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius; this is a magical aspect suggesting a daring kind of edginess that requires ingenuity when working together, for many hands to make light work, and for the global family to connect heart-to-heart when firing up the crystalline ‘light-grid’ in unusual and magical ways. Aquarius in connection to Uranus is also the sign of the ‘outsider’, the one who seems strange but exudes genius and eccentricity: the inventor.

☆ In Esoteric Astrology, Aquarius is the hierarchical ruler of the Moon, meaning we are all ‘one’ living under the rays of the life-affirming Sun. Our aim is to live with selfless Aquarian awareness and grow the love that we naturally feel – a love that brings senses alive to be free, generous and kind. Basically, life is not about constant competition, but about working together to better the lives of all. 

☆ To help us do just that a Fire Trine that has been coming and going with various planets linking up to each throughout the run up this exciting and loving Full Moon. Also, The Sun at home in Leo, and three other planets currently ‘in domicile’, in signs in which they excel: Saturn in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces, are both still retrograde, taking time to digest how to work with pollution and suffering, while optimistic Jupiter goes forward in Sagittarius just as the Full Moon beings her three day culumination 14^th August (15^th exact, 16^th disseminating). Jupiter’s move suggests morality can now again be seen to play a greater part in the ways that we govern our lives and minds, to help us grow and expand into our naturally light and wise state. (FYI: Saturn goes forward just after the Full Pisces Moon 18^th September).

☆ And while this Full Moon is what’s called a ‘see-saw’ chart, with two sides competing for dominance, it is the Sun and the personal planets which hold sway. As soon as lunar culminates she begins to wane towards the ‘Black New Virgo Moon’ (a Black Moon is the second New Moon of a calendar month) when ‘The Goddess of Perfection’ reveals ways towards some kind of stability within an solid Earth Trine.

Ultimately, this Full moon is one for tuning in and listening to the beating heart which keeps us on the move and in our flow, as plans change, people come and go, and hope for the future zaps in from leftfield and unexpected sources.

In Esoteric astrology, Aquarius is the hierarchical ruler of the Moon; this means at our ‘highest’ emotional vibration we are world servers, wanting the best for all beings, and humanely cooperating with others when bringing our unique gift to the world.  In order for such freedom to exist we need to be accountable for our actions and ideas.

☼ ♌ SUNday’s 18degrees Aquarius Supermoon at 19:09 bst (10:09PST) may well lessen the chance to see the usually dramatic Persieds meteor shower this year (though it may still be possible to witness a long sky streak). Instead, the lights, the regal Leo Sun and egalitarian Aquarius Moon, encourage the reclamation of spiritual strength and power so that we can embrace the future with a happy heart, comfortable with our own personal responsibility.

Though there may well be obstacles, which are possibly even preceded by breakthroughs; and any sense of limitation needs to be addressed from a conscientious place of personal answerability. Whilst giving ourselves space to think outside the box is important, any encounter with a power imbalance, be that in friendship, partnership, at work, in the home, wherever equality is called for, it may now mark a need to define boundaries and draw protective lines to avoid real or even psychic abuse.  

You see, this is karmically laden  Supermoon, when heavy important matters materialise, from seemingly out-of-the-blue. Emotional issues of trust, honour and loyalty need to be treated with illuminated insight. Generosity is also called for, where kindred spirits, spiritual friends and sangha provide helpful alliance. For the 21^st Century Spiritual Warrior with planets at 14-20 fixed signs, it might be helpful to cast your mind back to August 1999 and see how best to be now.  As the generous Solar Light perfects the heart-essence, this Lammas fixed fire cross-quarter Full Moon accents the source of love and light that provides warmth, food and shelter, cosmically connecting and binding us all together under One Sun. ♥ Insight into Light ~ Medicine Buddha August 2013

The radiant golden light of the Leo Lion supports and nourishes the life-force during today’s Medicine Buddha ~ Tara Puja Moon, highlighting concentrated focus and the courage and determination to transform deeply engrained (karmic) patterns or issues which obscure the beauteous joy of our inner-essence: the creative shining Spirit.

En route to the culmination of the Full Aquarius Moon on the 20th /21st August, this first quarter moon phase, in formidable and perceptive Scorpio, calls for dramatic adjustments, leaving no stone unturned in any kind of research. Now is the time to be sensitively engaged, insightful, and artistically resourceful, especially when healing the subtle energies of the heart-mind and body, emotions and psyche.

Crowning Leo Glory ~> Full Moon in Aquarius 2011

A mega blast of cosmic energy roared from the Leo Sun King marking wild this week. The triple series of solar flares peaked with an X-flare on Tuesday the 9^th August at 8:05UT. Solar flares hurl highly-charged particles and plasma into the solar system. These fierce coronal mass ejections impact upon Earth through a variety of means, from the weather to communication satellites; the flare on Tuesday (Mar’s day) was thankfully not directed head-on towards Earth, yet there are still strong vibrations; and the sensitive found it hard to sleep, with little appetite, feeling listless. This particular set of flares are symbolic of our spiritual progress and being able to familiarise oneself with the ability to remain centred during the purification process which encourages the Leo crown (chakra) to shine.  

The Sun is exalted in Leo, so events are dramatic, and often fun. Though this past week has been ‘marred’, literally, with Mars igniting volatile inflamitory issues through the challenging square to Uranus in Aries, i.e. the economic downgrades for U.S. & France, and of course, the "England riots", which shocked everyone by the speed at which they spread (and I don’t think one can blame social media, I saw many posts that encouraged people to stay home and safe). Mars is hot, fiery and implusive, as is Aries. Uranus however, will reveal any instability, whereas Mars ignites the tinder-box. Mars is also in a detrimental position throughout August (in homey Cancer, as well as being ‘unruly’ out-of-bounds). Mars also aggravates anger; it is well documented that people lose their ability to think straight when angry. Rioting is therefore a lose-lose situation - all the more reason to follow the Buddha’s advice and practice being calm. Yet with Mars' opposition to powerful but secretive Pluto (square Uranus), has brought a challenging and often polarising emotional and economic roller-coasters to ride, from the depths of dispair and up again to envisioning the confident future - as well as bringing previously hidden ufo files, to surface. I love ufology and am endlessly fascinated by what’s hidden in space (of course from the Buddhist pov, there is no-space:)). But still, my relative inclination is towards spiritual esoterica.  

Esoterically speaking, it might interest you to know how the Sun works on three levels - a bit like a sand-mandala, with its’ triple layered meaning: physical (body), heart (speech) and Spirit (the wisdom mind). There are also times when each of the Sun’s different qualities are activated. We are now in a long period of coming to understand the Spiritual wisdom-mind, a mind that has been stirring the heart-mind with varying intensity since the summer solstice 2010.

During this time of accelerated Spiritual development, we are learning to go beyond the political mundane events we see around us, and elevate our consciousness so that when confronted by difficult situations we remain clear and lucid.  

The Full Moon at 20 degrees of Aquarius on Saturday August 13^th, at 19:57bst, we have the opportunity to connect to kindred spirits, and raise that loving vibration, to generate the altruistic intention the Aquarian brotherhood of humankind symbolises.

Planet Venus is also currently up-close and very personal with the Sun (exact conjunction on 16th) and opposing the Moon, indicating the importance of LOVE. So let's look at how we love: INTERpersonal describes relationships between you and another. INTRApersonal describes self-love - which is very poignant during a superior conjunction of the Sun and Venus. Can you honestly say, with hand on heart, that you love all of yourself? During this time when Spirit Sun is with Venus planet of values, respect and love, learning to love oneself, ghastly bits and all, is paramount, in order to transform the very same negative aspects. That which we condemn or deny are the most difficult to transform.

Acceptance encourages the healing magic.

As we say in Buddhism, when we learn to love one's own demons - jealousy, anger, greed etc, they stop eating at us or destroying in the same destructive way - and, more often than not, they disappear.

To be dedicated to LOVE is to be dedicated to evolution of the human SPIRIT.

Discovering an inexhaustable treasury at the Leo New Moon '09

The very heart of our enlightened mind awakens with this new Leo moon. A worthy altruistic intention, called “Bodhicitta” in Sanskrit, is a precious natural essence generated by developing compassion, wishing that all beings be happy – including ones’ self – and have the causes of happiness. And as Sun and Moon align in this joyful, most determined and heartfelt sign of Leo, (also ruled by the Sun) it is a celestial union that adds light, dynamism, and inner-strength to help us radiate genuine unconditional love.

With the luminaries (the sun & moon) bringing into line the opposing triple Aquarian conjunction, that of beneficent Jupiter, healing Chiron, and imaginative Neptune, exploring individual space and being comfortable within a collective environment, be it at work or play, within a group activity or the global cyber community, brings about an awareness of equanimity that encourages one to be at ease within our inexhaustible treasury of generosity. Now is the time when the power of love feeds the creative Spirit and engenders untold miracles. And besides, it's also a great time to have some fun and party!

Shantideva, Tibet’s 8th Century scholar praised Bodhicitta such:

That overcomes the sovereignty of death.
It is the inexhaustible treasure
That eliminates poverty in the world.
It is the supreme medicine
That quells the world’s disease.
It is the tree that shelters all beings

That leads to freedom from unhappy states of birth.
It is the dawning moon of the mind
That dispels the torment of disturbing conceptions.
It is the great sun that finally removes
The misty ignorance of the world.”

United in Love ♥☼♥ Leo Sun ~ Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius 09

According to the Tibetan tradition, during the 24 hours surrounding a lunar eclipse, karma and merit generated is magnified 70 million times. Imagine the feel-good factor Bill Clinton is incurring by returning home with the two young reporters imprisoned in North Korea. For tonight we witness the last of three eclipses in a row, which is the Full Moon, lunar and penumbral and vaguely visible over Europe and Africa. (Next is New Year’s Eve!)

Eclipses are always powerful and loaded with emotional intensity; cross-culturally associated with magical Dragons. In Tibet, Dragon signifies inscrutability, mystery, and the highest kind of principles that guide our fiery inner light – Spirit – to be fearless with compassion, courageous and open. In the west it is the heavenly ‘Ourobos’, the transformational tail-eating serpent representing the never-ending cycle of life, death and re-birth. With evolutionary Rahu at the head and Ketu at the tail, Tibet’s Dragon is also ‘Roarer of Thunderclouds’ and bearer of the glowing orb, the ‘wish-fulfilling gem’, symbolic of enlightenment.

At 1:55 am, (BST) the celestial dragon fertilises the pearl-like seed of potentiality, as the fiery and generous Leo Sun aligns with a coolly altruistic Aquarian Moon, both at 13.43 degrees. And although this eclipse is partial, potent energies assemble. Aquarius is also the sign of wishing: so best be conscious and careful of what we wish at this time. This is also a rather ‘yang’ eclipse, as both signs are masculine in nature, denoting wisdom in action, intuition working with the rational. Aquarius holds the head of the dragon (the north node), urging us towards a humanitarian future. The tail of the dragon (south node) is in Leo, encouraging us to come from the heart, to be loving and creative and confident of our individuality within the Aquarian collective, and discover personal strength in unity.

And as this Moon conjoins the triple Aquarian conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, the incentive to grow, mend, and let go of addiction, anger or blame is strong. In the body, Jupiter rules the liver, while Neptune is associated with toxicity, and Chiron the accidentally wounded healer. This association suggests that whatever we may have done in the past to ourselves, others, or even to the planet (through our own ignorance), now is the time wise-up, forgive and be generous, to move on with hearts free from destructive emotions, brimming with unconditional, compassionate love.

One last note, here in the Northern hemisphere we have the high summer fire festival ‘Lammas’, celebrating warmth, joy and the reaping of summer wheat harvest.
