Tara Moon ~> Venus & Uranus March 19

With the Moon now in Sagittarius, the last quarter Tara – Medicine Moon indicates wisdom in action before the dynamic New Moon, only a week away March 6th. 

In Tibetan astro-science Venus is considered to be Tara’s ‘star’. One of the brightest celestial orbs, Venus is known in astrology as ‘Queen of the Heavens’; she is also the ruler of Taurus, the same sign into which the planet of change, freedom-loving Uranus is moving into on the New Moon. Airy Venus has featured in all Uranus’ recent moves; as such it’s crucial to watch Venus whens she interacts with Uranus over the coming years, as issues of freedom and changes to everyday values come to our attention. 

Like Tara, the ‘Great Mother Liberator’, Venus is the planet of love, creating balance and harmony, fairness and fertility, peace and love. Venus in Capricorn is currently holding steadily to tradition, charming those with sway and control with beauty and brains, experience and dedication. While Venus reaches the degree of the sign of Mars’s exaltation (28 Capricorn), Mars is in Venus’s home sign, Taurus. Thus the cosmic lovers, Venus and Mars, can at least get along politely and connect diplomatically over a glass of something smooth, even if there are other kinds of relationship tension. 

At the New Moon, however, a foremost feminine principal comes into sharper context, as Goddess Venus enters into Aquarius for a three-week period of 'mutual reception’ with socially minded Uranus highlighting our kindred spirits, human rights and natures’ freedom: beginning March 1st Venus moves into Aquarius, the sign rules by Uranus, all-the-while Uranus is in Taurus, the sign which rules Venus. This Uranus-Venus 'freedom-closeness dilemma' is a major theme even to be continued whenl Uranus leaves Taurus 2027, and enters Gemini, conjuncts Venus at 0degrees of the sign of the twins: a change in understanding duality, perhaps ;) .

☉☽ A closing Moon phase highlights the need to heal and re-orientate by upholding principles with pure intention and pure heart. With Spirit Sun currently in truth-seeking Sagittarius, squaring the sensitive Moon in practical Virgo, the closing Last Quarter Moon of 2017 emphases planning and reorganising (Mercury retrograde, until 23rd) with a cautious and realistic view, and an eye for detail. 

☉☽ This combination of ‘The Lights’, Virgo and Sagittarius, is mutable, accenting change is surely coming. ☆ A fiery Aries Sun at the ‘world point’, means that most everyone notes an energetic shift, and a change of seasons has either arrived, or is imminent. With Aries in square to the Moon in her detriment, in Capricorn, conjunct Capricorn's ruler, karmic Saturn, lord of obstacles and limitation, we may also be asking ourselves how we got into situation(s) we now face. If that is the case, take heart, even it seems like squaring-up to the impossible to overcome, it’s important to know there are many ways of clearing (karmic) obstacles. Mantra and visualization meditation work well, as does doing good deeds, making amends, and changing one’s mind to not repeat the negative. Given the antidote, we also need to be disciplined and practical and be forever conscious of what needs to be applied (in body, speech, or mind) so we needn’t feel stuck, just as the Fire Bird year begins to spark into action.

☆ Saturn is currently on the Sagittarian degree that points directly towards the centre of our Galaxy and, due to retrogrades, will be for the most of 2017: a time to shine a light upon all matters of truth and consequence. In the lead up to the Losar New Moon February 8th @ 14:39gmt, Spirit Sun arrives at the Solar Fixed cross-quarter point in the year that is midway between seasons, winter in the north and summer in the south. These are sacred days in the solar cycles, as light now begins to noticeably grow in the Northern hemisphere. The next Solar marker after this will be at Spring Equinox, in 6 weeks.
In the ancient nature religions this current cross-quarter phase. from 7-15 degrees Aquarius, is variously called Imbolc, the Feast of Torches, or Candlemas or St Briget’s day in the Christian Calendar, honouring feminine qualities of poetry, art and craft, as well as smiths and offering shrines.In esoteric astrology, the Sun in the sign of Aquarius ‘shines the light within the darkness, cleansing with healing rays until the darkness is dispelled’. Due to an astrological association called ‘mutual reception’, this often tense combination of ‘The Lights’, at the Last Quarter Moon phase, can now actually work rather well. This is because both Sun and Moon are in signs in which the other is strengthened, i.e. the Sun is exalted in Aries and the Moon rules Cancer.

Goddess Tara now blesses this specific astral arrangement which enhances bravery as well as confidence, so that even unusually stressful conditions can quickly be resolved with courage and conviction. Currently fast-moving, bizarrely predictable yet unexpected changes are charted with a plethora of newness, symbolised by the present Aries conjunction that sees Uranus, Sun and Mercury, fire fervour and passion, to impulsively leap into action. 

Before bounding into situations unknown, hold courage close to heart and listen carefully for the wisdom of the Mother Goddess Liberator. At this last quarter Tara – Medicine Buddha Moon, eclipse season fades for another six months; and an Earthy Capricorn Goddess commands pragmatic wisdom, especially during periods of dramatic transformation.

The sensitive Moon is also now conjunct secretive Pluto. In judicious Capricorn, the Divine Feminine now accents intuition best guided with discipline, to leave no stone unturned when dealing with all things hidden. 12th/13th January __/\__Tara Moon ~> The Capricorn lunation’s last quarter healing Moon in Libra calls upon Tara, the beautiful Goddess of Compassion, as the Envoy of Peace, to save us from being overwhelmed by fear, anxiety, or other earthly concerns. ☼ ☾ With today’s lunar emphasis upon the healing qualities of the Divine Feminine, honouring the Great Mother liberator can free us from fear and protect from suffering. All the while, the generous Sagittarian Sun inspires one to remain confident and optimistic, to know that rainbows and miracles do happen, and to encourage an open mind as the means to a kind and open heart.

In astrology, the radiant Sun is symbol of the self, exuding warmth, confidence and courage. The Sun is still currently at home in these last degrees of fiery Leo, so you’d think we could all be shiny, happy people having fun. But during this past week or so, karmic Saturn has made tricky aspects to both Spirit Sun and the sensitive Moon making it feel like we are wading through treacle, slowing us down to focus upon what’s important, especially when trying to move ahead and create dynamic change. This is not to say we cannot manifest the transformations and adjustments we wish, but whenever task master Saturn is prominent, as it is for a while yet (to be conjunct active Mars with the New Virgo Moon August 25th) that we should be patient with tough karmic lessons, appreciating what we learn within each present moment, particularly when working towards goals.

For the Last Quarter Cancerian Tara lunation, The Lights, Sun & Moon, are in mutual reception - meaning the luminaries get along very well: Sun in Cancer is in the Moon’s natural domain, and the Aries Moon is in the sphere of the Sun’s exaltation. Spirit and soul flow and merge and quickly, to eliminate emotional, physical or mental blocks. This mighty combination is dynamic and Cardinal in quality, and usually overcomes problems swiftly, with care and kindness.

This Last Quarter Moon is also with the South Node. Any sense of chaos, aggression or confusion could spark off a feeling of ‘Déjà vu’. A healing balance is found within a refuge, at home and/or in the dharma. Involving Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, the complex Cardinal Cross of the Central Spiritual Sun continues to come to perfection (April 20th) to raise individual and collective consciousness. And only a week away (15th) is a lunar eclipse that heightens the intensity of current celestial dynamism.

The illuminating Sun conjunct radical Uranus in Aries still encourages a sudden awakening to our true Buddha nature: that all is beauty, goodness and love. Even so this combination of planets can also mirror dramatic shifts and change and a disruption of regular flow, in whichever direction. Mindfulness and meditation will soothe frayed nerves, especially while the exalted Aries Sun is being opposed by Aries ruler, dynamic Mars. Mars is retrograde during this opposition (exact April 8th 21:03gmt), raising heat and passion, and also making these optimum nights for seeing the scarlet planet high in the midnight sky.

All this is happening at the same time as the First Quarter Goddess Tara Medicine Buddha Moon in nurturing Cancer. Today, at the Last Quarter Moon, we honour Goddess Tara, the Great Mother Liberator who quickly helps to overcome obstacles. By channeling the Divine Feminine’s currently pronounced qualities, the Great Compassion for all beings and her far seeing eye, we tap into the ability to engage in difficult situations with loving kindness, able to remain open, detached and positive, even if we witness seemingly unbearable suffering.

This is the last part of a lunation leading from the end of the female Black Water Snake year into the yang New Year of the Green Wood Horse; as such it is one of the darkest moments of the Tibetan Year, called the Dön Season (Feb22nd –March3rd). Coming to the end of the year of the Black Water Snake - a year of profound insight and powerful emotions - tonight's Last Quarter Moon presents the opportunity to transform during ‘a crisis of conscience’ (because this is a time when principles are called into focus). Now is therefore time to clear and prepare for the oncoming and exciting Aquarian New Moon and the New Chinese Year of the Green Wood Horse Thursday the 30th January. (Note this year that Losar, Tibetan New Year, is a month later, March 2nd). The energy surrounding the Wood Horse is markedly different to the water bound Snake; the Horse is dynamic, quick and active, willing to shoot the breeze and grow and move in exciting places and spaces. So best be prepared to ride the new WindHorse-power. Remove hindrance and overcome obstacles by being cooperative and concentrated (even with self), utilising the clarity of the altruistic and friendly Aquarian Sun, in combination with the insightful (and often secretive) magnetic Scorpio Moon.
