❂ Developing Emotional Awareness ~> Total Solar Eclipse ~> July 2nd/3rd 2019

A heavenly union of the radiant Sun and reflective New Cancer Moon takes on a greater significance during a Total Solar eclipse, today at 10degrees of watery Cancer, @20:15bst (July 2^nd), when a cosmic kind of all-pervading consciousness has the potential to seep into our awareness and generate a personal emotional perception that stimulates a need to care and share in the coming months and years.

Visible from parts of South America, Argentina and Chile (at sunset), this is a total eclipse, in effect for 4 minutes and 27 seconds (equalling a 4 and a half-year influence). A Solar Eclipse is like the Dragon’s head rising up to dramatically remind us to remain centred in our naturally radiant presence in any circumstance, aware nothing is permanent, not even the sunshine during the day. During eclipse season, shifts in consciousness mirror shifts in the physical, the geophysical and celestial, as well as changes in mass awareness.

With a monthly conjunction of Sun and a New Moon, there’s always a sense of the new stirring within the heart-mind, emotions and intellect, as well as within our natural environment. But during a Solar Eclipse, when the Moon passes in front of the Sun, time literally suspends to create a sacred space within – and without. The moment of totality is exactly when the conjunction of Sun, Moon AND Earth create a powerful portal for magical human realization. All kinds of energies can ride in and out, seen and unseen. So it is most important to call in (Dharmapala) protectors and totems as spiritual bodyguards - especially during meditation and prayer, as that is when we are extremely sensitive and open. Ramp up the radiance of your natural light now; and even if you’re on the move, or waiting at a traffic light, take a moment to breathe in light and exhale love, and nurture oneself at all times.

This year’s set of eclipses are similar to those at the start of the millennia in 200, when Moon-ruled water-sign Cancer, as the destiny-fulling ascending North node (Rahu) merged with karmic earthy Capricorn as descending node (Ketu) indicating where we are coming from (collectively and individually). 

With both Sun and Moon now in feminine Cancer, it highlights streams of often unconscious emotions, and how strong we are in our personal flow; how deeply we feel when riding these waves, especially feelings about our families, including bonds to our global family, and how we are able to tend, feed and support children (or one’s inner-child), as well as the vulnerable and frail without putting profit before helping people. As this is a Moon-ruled eclipse in Cancer, now is THE time to honour the Great Mother Goddess and the Divine Feminine within (noting that we all have an intuitive feminine side, even guys!), and make offerings of kindness to those we love. 

On a psychological level, this eclipse also corresponds to primordial feelings that force one to face dark emotion in order to heal family fortunes, and let go of grudges and resentment; repairing ancestral connections and mending historical barriers by moving ahead, albeit sideways and cautiously, carrying the wish fulfilling gem. 

According to the Tibetan teachings Karma is multiplied 10,000x during an eclipse day, good or bad.

Epileptics should also please take note of eclipse dates, as they are often ‘seized by the moon’.

Also remember eclipses generally come in pairs (rarely threes); the next eclipse will be a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn July 16^th/17^th, when drawing lines in shifting tidal sands will provide inspiration and entertainment, if not stability. Great accomplishments are possible but not permanent – no thing is.

Meditation is therefore seriously encouraged during an eclipses, as our bioenergy, often called the chi or prana, the spiritual force field which constantly courses through the channels and nadis in our subtle body can ignite Kundalini Shakti to rise to meet at the forehead chakra – the all-seeing eye, and even the crown chakra can open during these sacred moments - which is why it is so very important to be psychically protected during what is probably one of the most powerful cosmic alignments that we can harness to help abide in this celestial state of non-duality..

Spiritually, this eclipse connects us to all pervading space which is empty of inherent existence.  How this eclipse actually manifests in our lives will depend upon where the eclipse degree lies in the horoscope and the aspects it makes to the individual chart. And it may take a while to see, as the effects of eclipses are said to last in the case of solar eclipses for as many years as minutes: This one is total of four minutes long, equalling four years of influence.  So it’s worth bearing in mind the power of the intention during this very potent occasion.

Be prepared.  Note the breath and how left and right nostrils are performing. Before the actual eclipse tune into your subtle body awareness: be aware of how the prana is flowing through you. Note which nostril is dominant; and how you feel. Are you hot, cold, humid or dry? There are certain  foods to eat to enhance or calm either of the main side channels: the right hand Sun and left hand Moon, (Pingala and Ida, (Roma & Kyangma (tib)).

(Personally, I find it’s always handy to have a glass of water close by during water sign eclipses and, being an emotional water sign, a tissue – tears can flow!).  Then, during the eclipse, while sitting in the seven point Varocaina meditation position, focus upon the breath, directing the centre of your attention to the own heart, mirroring the convergence of energy at the Solar System’s heart of the Sun and keep the flame of love alight.

☸ Losar ~ Tibetan New Year 2144 of the Red Firebird! ☸

Today’s New Moon Solar eclipse will see a magnificent ‘Ring of Fire’ over South Africa, with the potential for solar winds to make it rather spectacular, when we will be able to see the Sun’s all-illusive corona, high density plasma that holds the secrets of the Sun’s crowning glory. The Eclipse is in Pisces, the sign of the magical power of prayer, as well as collective confusion, and the compassion we generate within the mysteries.

·✰· When Sun and Moon unite in their orbits to form a total eclipse (Solar or Lunar) a massive amount of transformational celestial energy concentrates upon the degree concerned; in this case it is the 6-7-8-9-10-11° super-sensitive Pisces feeling the pull of oceanic and cosmic tidal change. This degree is also conjunct the Babylonian fixed Royal star Fomalhaut: a star which sometimes indicates dealing with difficult secrets and/or hanging out with the wrong crowd, as well as snake bites and squandered inheritance. Essentially Fomalhaut’s influence is to learn from and leave behind the negative and bring consciousness to the fore, dragging from the depths of the oblivion all kinds of insight into the light, and the inner and outer workings of the most subtle vibrations. It’s a star to watch very early on summer morning, with its spherical ‘fish’s eye’ hanging low in the sky. To my mind this star witnesses the embodied resonance of a collective soul - we are one - each with an actual body (relatively speaking) and corporeal soul. And this brings me to what I think the crux of this eclipse is about: how we collectively demonstrate loving kindness and compassion to all beings, as we all (eventually) become enlightened conduits for cosmic universal consciousness. 

Taking into account the fact that the mighty powerful Uranus-Pluto Square is now currently being reactivated, this then is no ordinary eclipse. It’s one, when looking at all the dramatic changes taking place, where we need to think in the long term. In the short-term, some situations happening now are directly and karmically connected to and/or even created by obstacles relating to 2012-13-14. BUT we mustn’t forget that the Uranus-Pluto cycle is a long one, approximately 125 years, and that where we are now is only the crisis ridden opening square; i.e. the first quarter of a longer cycle. Looking at this longer astrological cycle, it is also worth noting how an eclipse at this degree is also exactly opposite the feminist liberation and freedom loving conjunction of the mid-60’s, directly opposing that particular generational signature, (Uranus-Pluto conjunction in Virgo). Those born around that time may really resonate with this eclipse and feel a strong need to purify and connect to the divine, and with a sense of urgency if one is live in the kind of 'Peace,Love & Equality' the 60’s offered.

That said, Pisces is the very last sign of the zodiac, and to realise a collective heaven on earth, endurance and serenity are always a boon. Now, however, we need to collectively heal our connection to the sacred feminine, our bodies, the Earth herself as well as the Divine. Please also note how this opposition to this most famous 60’s conjunction, which saw freedom in love and information on computers grow to where we are now, is actually going to be in 2046-48, and it will be encompassing the same degree we are looking at now, i.e. 5-6-7° Pisces. What does this tell us? It tells us that every time there is an eclipse at this degree (every 19ish years) there will be an important cosmic download from the universal matrix which we need to integrate into our lives in order to become spiritual and practical world servers. And as we soon leave this tense trans-personal Uranus-Pluto aspect behind (by the end of next year) we will continue to look at the issues of making personal and collective sacrifices, so that we can heal the planet and ourselves. 

·✰· But most exciting in the immediate is how a day after this New Moon begins the Tibetan New Year of the Red Fire Bird, Losar, which starts on Monday 27th Feb to celebrate a fortnight of miracles the Buddha displayed during his lifetime. These are considered karma multiplied days. Each miracle accumulates more and more merit to awaken the Bodhi-mind, the awakened heart-mind; and on the 15th Full Moon day (12th March 2017) the accumulation of merit is celebrated with the ‘Day of Miracles’, also called known as 'Chötrul Düchen', or ‘The Great Prayer Festival’.

·✰· When Sun and Moon unite in their orbits to form a total eclipse (Solar or Lunar) a massive amount of transformational celestial energy concentrates upon the degree concerned; in this case it is degrees 18-19-20-21 of supersensitive Pisces feeling the pull of oceanic tidal change. This eclipse illuminates the major theme of the Yang Fire Monkey year: that all mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces are under the celestial spotlight to become even more humanitarian and flexible, as opposed to crafty and deceptive. So while all of us might sense the world is at turning point of some sort (depending upon where those degrees lie in your personal horoscope), because watery Pisces is an all-consuming, all embracing collective sign, it’s also possible many will intuit the imperative healing needed for the underlying global subconscious, which too easily tortures itself in toxic turmoil; in as much as we all want to be happy and avoid suffering; but what stops us attaining happiness – or at least seeing that happiness is a state of mind is, of course, our deluded thoughts: the desire nature and aversions that breed ignorance and fear. Be aware: this sense of separateness is how people are controlled by others who wear the mask of illusion. In reality, and from the ‘higher’ outlook, we are One: one race, one planet, under one sky breathing the same air, purifying in the same Samsara sea. Such unity consciousness is possible to quickly understand through activities that produce lots of positive emotion, such as dance, music, yoga, meditation and prayer can helps to realize that even the Divine and self are naturally One.  

·✰· This Solar Eclipse (totality is across Indonesia) is with Ketu, aka the South Node. When energy flows in through the south it is often stronger, in primal Shakti mode; this is mostly because we generally release through the South Node (energy going out as opposed to coming in). Riding the waves during this eclipse is much easier when one remains open to twists and turns. Another function of the south node is as point of incarnation and reincarnation; and generally we say the qualities of the sign, house placement, aspects made are an indication of past life energies. And this eclipse accents a spiritual portal that has been open much wider than usual since November last year, due to conjunction of Jupiter the planet that magnifies with Rahu, the North Node, the the gate has widened, . (This may explain why so many seem to have passed since that time.) The exact conjunction of expansive Jupiter and Rahu takes place at Summer Solstice, when the enormity of collective light can heal and bring relief to those who need it. ☼ ☾Today's 1st Quarter Moon in Scorpio is conjunct karmic Saturn, at the all-important ‘anaretic degree’, the last degree of both the Sun at 29 Leo and the Moon at 29 Scorpio; this is also the very last time Luna will join Saturn in Scorpio for another 30ish years (by next month Saturn will be in Sagittarius for two and a half years), making this a rather loaded and weighty Medicine Buddha day. Heavy in the sense that patience is called for, as karma drama can be seen as accumulative cause and effect and certain past actions can all-too-easily catch up. But karma also means action. And when the sensitive moon is conjunct karmic Saturn, that action is loaded with personal responsibility for overcoming negative and destructive actions. Engaging in such a practice surely has golden rewards. Obstacles can now be cleared by delving into and healing the deeper parts of psyche which are currently in for the long-haul transformational process. It helps to now to let go of any part of life, such as ingrained desires and old memories that keep us stuck in behavioural or thought patterns that no longer serves the higher purpose, i.e. stay in the present and do now what is best for everyone, including oneself.

☽★☼ At 30 Pisces, the very last ‘omega’ degree of the zodiac, a new Super Moon Solar Eclipse on Friday morning (when the moon is closest to the earth) is exact at 9:31 am GMT. The last degree of a sign, the powerful ‘anaretic degree’, signifies we have already experienced the qualities of a sign and are ready to move on and embrace the next sign. In the case of this Solar Eclipse, it is the Piscean’s profound sensitivity and mystical awareness that has the ability to overcome duality to merge and blend with cosmic Oneness, that precedes the freshness the Aries Ram brings at the Spring Equinox (in the year of the Green Yin Wood Ram!), only 13 hours after Sol’s eclipse at 22:45gmt. The Sun is the star of this eclipse show, our Spiritual heart illuminating, feeding and growing all things on Earth; and in Pisces, as a world server responsive to the environment, showing loving kindness, forgiveness and compassion to all beings, especially beings, seen and unseen, suffering in Samsara’s pounding waves.

Pre-eclipse DarkMoon in Libra until Thursday, when the Moon occults the near Halloween 0° Scorpio Sun (@22:57bst), and an incoming tide of emotional and spiritual transformation rides a strong and deep wave. As this New Moon solar eclipse tests how we identify with our passions, which are best observed even when indulging, a new process begins in the way we view obsession and desire, making it easier to see and recognise craving’s nuances, so that we won’t need to get hooked by greed or possessiveness, thereby enabling one to relax within caring, loving relationships (including the relationship we have with our 'self').

Aries-Libra LUNAR ECLIPSE awakens the CARDINAL CROSS – the cosmic mandala of the CENTRAL SPIRITUAL SUN

“ The mandala is an archetypal image whose occurrence is attested throughout the ages. It signifies the wholeness of the Self. This circular image represents the wholeness of the psychic ground or, to put it in mythic terms, the divinity incarnate in man.” Jung

Tibetans also call the mandala a ‘celestial palace’ where all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas abide to help transform the mundane psyche into sacred unity.  Having a balanced heart-mind makes for an optimum meditation to remain at the centre of holy-ness, made especially demanding during the upcoming Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in harmonious Libra 14/15^th  (8:40am BST) at 26 Libra/Aries, is followed in two weeks by the Taurus Solar Eclipse.

☩ Practice staying at centre (of the mandala): hydrate, eat well, sleep well, exercise enough, and set the intention to raise Bodhicitta and get ready to ride the karmic winds of Monday night/Tuesday morning's total eclipse of the Moon, which will be visible across North America. Think back to the last set of similar Aries/Libra eclipses, in October ’13, and note changes in being able to a) more easily embrace and access the love-wisdom and b) release negative thought and behavioural patterns, which specifically affect the health and wellbeing of (a certain) relationship. Even if that relationship is only with self and environment, the chances are that you/we are all more aware of the need for heroic individual cooperation and participation when creating stability and equanimity.  

Now we are in the dynamic year of the high-minded Wood Horse, whose season is spring, there’s no time like the present to acknowledge the need to fulfil responsibilities and put all positive HorsePower into action.  Though there is galloping sense of urgency with the most virtuous actions, caution is still advised while Mars is retrograde in Libra and conjunct the eclipsed Moon.

This cosmic and incredibly profound Cardinal Cross of the Central Spiritual Sun has, over the past four years, come in and out of orb with varying intensity since 2010 - and will continue to do so for another year. Indeed, we've even had this vibrant Cross of action present in recent eclipses before too, specifically July 1st 2011, which represented an elevation of critical spiritual mass (in which social media surely plays a part) as well as an awareness about difficulties (and their causes).

Though much depends upon how we view and react to current challenges, this set of eclipses now fast approaching will first see the Lunar eclipse on the 14/15th (8:40am BST) where, interestingly, the Solar principle is exalted by the Sun in Aries. This is followed by a Solar eclipse in two weeks, 29th April, when the Lunar principle is exalted with the Moon in Taurus. This is an extraordinary exaltation of both ‘Lights’ within consecutive eclipses. As Sun, Moon and Earth align in such an exalted manner, it provides the perfect opportunity to balance both male & female sides of ourselves, as well as within relationship – through thought-provoking and possibly demanding situations.

The importance of this totally cosmic Cardinal Cross lies in its ability to bring divinity to life, within everyone and everything, raising consciousness so that all can be aware how we co-create with our Universe. When we see the Divine in everything, then everything becomes Divine, sacred and whole. We can call it ascension or awakening, but by the time this time of Cardinal Cross moves on, many more people will have become aware that Spirit is being initiated into a greater understanding of interconnected Oneness.

Astrological key points for this Cardinal Cross of the Central Spiritual Sun reinforce innovative and exciting energies that generate movement and action.: Gathering kindred spirits together is planet Uranus as the instigating agent of change; Jupiter synthesizes with a caring and hopeful overview, and is exalted in Cancer; while communicative Mercury, in assertive Aries, is in the sign of Aries' esoteric rulership, next to Uranus, which is the hierarchical ruler of Aries, this powerful Aries energy urges the Spiritual Warrior towards an altruistic objective an to think clearly. When we add the Sun’s exaltation in Aries to the mix, energizing this Cardinal Grand Cross with the Light of Life's pure Light vibration, Aries therefore becomes the only sign stimulated and strengthened on all levels: orthodox, esoteric and hierarchical. This means active Aries is triple powered. And while the retrograde Mars rules Aries (though now in Libra (and with the Full Moon)), one gets the sense the zodiac’s defender and warrior is being roused with the motivation to be brave and do what is right and fair. This is not to say situations will run smooth, as there will be quakes and flares to heighten any intensity: it is Eclipse Season, after all. But the challenge now is to find new ways to kindle justice and peace, beauty and culture, for all beings to harmonize important relationships, be those with friends, family, authority, or even the relationship we have with ‘self’; for it is only when we embrace what is good and familiarize ourselves with virtuous action can freedom, both personal and collective, flower and bloom.
