Transforming (secret) Desires

Always longing for something, we humans brim with earthly desires.  You name it: money, food, beauty, buildings, brains, status, wisdom, power or enlightenment, we want it all.  Being desirous is a natural state, a condition that can propel as easily as repel.  Our wants and wishes make things happen. When things go the way we want, we think we’re happy. Yet all-too-often, and with no particular effort from our side, our desires can also make us miserable, especially if our demands are unfulfilled, or laden with obstacles and frustration.  So how do we deal with desire, from the astrological point of view? 

The signs of the zodiac that symbolise desire nature, in the worldly and spiritual sense, are the rooted Earth sign Taurus and contained Water sign Scorpio. Both are fixed and determined, receptive and feminine.  Together Scorpio and Taurus can offer physical stability and emotional security, within oneself and in relationship.  Trouble only really starts when we become attached to our desires, and stubbornly fail to move on when, or if, our desires become untenable, unworkable, or generally unbelievable – which is when Scorpio’s ability to sever completely becomes very handy. Apart from the debris trailing in its wake, Scorpio’s skill to rise and rise is extremely admirable, if not downright superhuman.  It is the sign of life, death and rebirth, after all.

In the materialistic sense, fertile Taurus signifies the desire to live the good life with healthy food, fine wine, and solid financial and loving relationships.  Scorpio, on the other hand, has issues of trust, power and control, and craves intimacy within emotionally engaging associations that are profound and passionate, ones that often go to the brink and beyond. Dealing with investments and tax are also for the elite Scorpio powerbroker who works with other’s resources; while bricks and mortar, as well as green fields and flowers, the very soul of Mother Earth herself are in the domain of the strong but gentle Bull, Taurus. 

While the radiant Sun passes through perceptive Scorpio, in opposition to the exalted full Taurus Supermoon, the heavens provide an incentive to reflect with a certain amount of crystalline clarity upon our desires. Asking ourselves what do we really want? And how much are we prepared to personally invest, with time, money and energy into that goal. This is not a Full Moon for dreaming.  It’s time to be practical. Also worth noting is how the Moon is the sensitive soul’s container. Exalted in Taurus, those with spiritual leanings can consider how all our various whims and fancies affect our soul’s karma, be it our own personal soul, or the collective ‘world soul’, otherwise known as the anima mundi, the biosphere, the field, or cosmic consciousness. 

A Lunar exaltation in Taurus means our emotional anchor is actually in the best possible sign to remain steady, even with flood-prone tides. In perigee-syzygy (i.e. nearest and aligned), this exalted Full Moon is also the second and largest of three Full Supermoons in a row. Astro-maestro Richard Nolle coined the term ‘supermoon’ way back in the 70’s, to explain just how massive these Moons are. And as the distance between Earth and Moon decreases, gravitational and rotational force is celestially bound to have a changing impact upon Earth’s geocosmic activity, accenting the interconnectivity between Sun-Moon-Earth. 

Just as there are higher tides and earthquakes, landslides and floods within the environment, political quakes as well as emotional are already felt; many are likely to sense a turning tide with an avalanche of sensation (paranoia, greed, fear, anger, revenge), roused by the winds of change that began with at the shocking Aquarian First Quarter Moon on the 7-8^th November. Most important to note how this is the biggest SuperMoon for 70 years! The next one so close will be in 2034. Already we know it’s a ‘strong’ one, much stronger than usual. Check for 23° Taurus- Scorpio in your own chart, to see where a powerful (emotional) tidal pull is potent for you – this is the area determined at all cost to transform, as if survival of body and soul depends upon it. Remember also how Full Moons for last three days; so we are looking at 13^th-14^th -15^th, for the Moon to be HUGE: 14% bigger and 30% brighter than normal. Clear skies permitting, climb high, and find a magical place to witness the Supermoon rise. Moon rise and set are when she will look largest.  That said; give at least another three days for lunar effects to subside, only calming towards the last quarter. But with a third and last Supermoon to come December 13^th, which starts with a Sagittarius lunation on 29^th November, it’s advisable to remain optimistic, whatever your situation.  

There are also four quite intense celestial pointers brought into sharp astro focus by Sun and Moon during this Full Super Moon: 

• Spirit Sun in powerful and mysterious, obsessive and passionate Scorpio is now conjunct a lesser used astrological marker called Black Moon Lilith, which is an  unpredictable archetype representing the spurned rejected woman.  Black Moon Lilith is the dark side of our horoscope which, although ready to share and commit to the long-haul of any hardship ahead that walking the path side-by-side, is often repressed and turned down. With Black Moon Lilith there’s a sense of being abandoned, particularly by the powerful patriarchy. She is not timid, nor tame; Black Moon Lilith is that side of the feminine which mobilises hidden strengths. Often fuelled by the fury of betrayal, she can be a highly independent force to reckon with. Currently conjunct the life-giving Sun and asteroid Hygeia, for many (women) right now it may well feel there’s much work to do when asserting healing-headway made since the 60’s, to create a world of equality between race, gender and income. Black Moon Lilith is that side of the feminine psyche which feels the pain of being banished to darkness, but still vows to bring wisdom to the fore. She is the Tantric Goddess who destroys ego-based illusion to transform the most difficult situations into ones that raise and enhance spiritual values.
• With the Sun, BML and Hygeia in good triangle aspect to shamanic Chiron, damage can be repaired and feelings of abuse and neglect have the potential to be healed by working tirelessly to restore trust and openness between opposing factions. Working with collective and/or ‘unseen’ hurt and emotion, and letting-go of self-centred trust will develop compassion and friendliness as a means to overcome fear and heal a wounded heart.
• This actual SuperMoon also conjoins forces with Zaurak, which is a fixed star associated with gloomy Saturn, which is a challenge. So while Taurus reminds us to   simplify life, making an effort to enjoy what Mother Nature so freely gives, can quickly restore a flagging spirit and make it easier to wave good bye to melancholia.
• With this supermoon being very close to the Pleiades, this is the moon to weather-watch. In both ancient Babylonian custom, as well as Tibetan, it is said the weather during the Full Taurus Moon is indicative of what lies ahead for the cold winter months (or summer if you are in the southern hemisphere). This is  especially practical for sustenance, as Taurus is an earth sign, symbolic of gardening and crops, as well as taking care of the land and environment, which is more easily done when we have an idea of the elemental forces at play.

Wherever we are during this Full SuperMoon, we would do well to strengthen our soul connection to the planet, and thereby strengthen our own soul. Align with Mother Earth and her Taurus exaltation, give thanks for all the goodness and resources she gives so freely. And then imbibe the power to face and heal the deepest, darkest, and most frightening parts of the psyche, by allying with truth, light and love, having faith that our highest earthly qualities will bear fruit.

✫☽~♥~☉✫ Full Moon in Cancer January 15/16th ✫☽~♥~☉✫

Like a Mother looking after her child, the Moon at home in Cancer provides a place of homely protection, the sanctuary from chaos, and an anchor in rough seas. And the key to the Cancer Moon’s ability awaken the Divine Mother (within each of us) to show care and consideration is love, unconditional and pure.

This Cancer Full Moon, (sandwiched between two New SuperMoons) is exact Wednesday 15th/Thursday 16th at 4:52GMT, accenting professional guidance and practical care for next of kin, as well as friends and the global family. Reflecting the Spirit of the life-giving Sun in accomplished Capricorn (conjunct retrograde Venus), the growing-to-full Cancer Moon conjuncts generous Jupiter, revealing opportunities and helpful, available resources, emotional or solid, that feed and nurture growth and positivity.

With the actual Full Moon, however, there’s a tougher, almost wrathful feminine force at work. Conducting dark energy scored from the Moon’s trajectory around Earth, and determined to protect Earthly treasures (elements water and Earth), Black Moon Lilith heralds from the Divine Mother’s womb as the wisdom Dakini to conjunct this Cancer Full Moon. Black Moon Lilith is the wild part of our self that is fearless when entering the void to embrace bliss. For this is the power of the Divine Feminine who understands the alchemical transformational of Kundalini snake medicine, and whose heightened sense of enlightened awareness galvanises the participation of solving and resolving all the emotional and worldly problems in Samsara’s sea of suffering, as a means of caring and healing and cutting down haughty ego. This, then, is no ordinary Full Moon: it’s a Full Moon with the potential to awaken and illuminate the (collective) subconscious and transform into action.

Six-Pointed Sacred Star ✶ Grand Sextile ✶ Interlocking Water & Earth Triangles ~ July 2013

_(▼)_This triple-whammy moon-ruled Super-Moon Cancer lunation is bringing powerful waves of emotional intensity for everyone to ride, be they personal or mutual feelings, sensations are cosmically bound to be strong, as indicated by the Grand Water TrineS coming to perfection this week, on the 17/18/19/20th July (& the 20th is the day Mercury goes forward!).

_/✶ \_ A week later, starting 27th July, a magnificent Six-Pointed Star once again creates the summer’s Grand Sextile, with interlocking Grand Earth & Water Trines, invigorating celestial sweetness that can enhance and stabilize unseen bio-force, 'chi', through meditation, yoga, mantra, tantra, prayer, dance, music, healing, and basically serving humanity, both spiritually as well as practically. This Six-Pointed 'Star' has the potential to tap into the creative feminine life-force to generate peace and love - so much so that kind souls have created a 'harmonic convergence’ which we can all join and empower the Goddess (within); and has been twinkling in and out of focus since the extremely potent medicine Buddha Moon, June 16th.

This Sacred Star, a the double tetrahedron, a.k.a. Metatron's cube, creates symbols of both, the flower of life, and the Tree of Life, was also in celestial play at the first turning of the Dharma wheel, on the karma multiplied x10-million day, July12th. And it sharpens up the six-points again as we go into the last quarter Tara Moon when Venus is in Virgo, which is just after our third and final Super Full Moon of 2013 on July 22nd. All the while the double Water Trines undulate through the collective consciousness, with powerful and emotion coming up from often suppressed and deepest recesses, activating the Water triplicity’s qualities: Cancer’s personal and familial care and loving kindness (Metta), Scorpio’s social intensity and laser-like insight (Vipassanna) and Pisces’ compassionate ego-dissolving, embracing unconditional love into the communal heart-mind (Karuna).

These energies are powerful. And one must take care not to get swept along by collective hysteria or confusion. There is also a Black Moon Lilith, ‘Kali’ momentum to deal with, which involves cutting the root of ego and the prevention of anger and retaliation (more on that in another post); but suffice to say that the Grand Earth Triangle enables one to remain grounded whilst feelings, thoughts and ideas flow – a bit like the Temperance card in the Tarot, contained yet aware of a powerful flow and movement.

Magical Dream Healing ☽ •~ ♥ ~• ☆ Full Moon in Pisces

Experiencing any given emotion, be it love or compassion, anger or resentment, our mind tends to label the feeling at the speed of light as ‘pleasant’, ‘unpleasant’ or ‘neutral’. This Buddhist insight corresponds to the mechanism of the brain, which initially perceives any given situation as either ‘threat’ or ‘reward’. Whichever category a sensation falls into how we actually express our emotions has a vastly dramatic repertoire,  from cool, calm and collected, to those which make us feel we’re riding the wild and high peak of a tidal wave in Samsara’s choppy ocean. Feelings, like all phenomena, can seem very real and, because of the psycho-spiritual-anatomical connection, have a direct effect upon physical and psychological health as well as spiritual well-being. If only we could remind ourselves that our feelings are subject to the law of impermanence; they come and they go at varying rates, depending on our inclination or ability to go with the flow and not let the emotion distract our mind from our main human purpose: to be happy, fulfilled, and at peace, regardless of the situation. Feelings can also be very difficult to put into words.

I mention all this now as the Full Moon is on the rise, to be exact on Tuesday at 1Pisces, @18:05 BST (+5 EST).  A Full moon in a water element rouses passionate emotion at the best of times. In Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, a sign that tends to emote deeply, feeling situations often on a profoundly psychic level, we're even able to tune into the collective undercurrent.  So if you find yourself ‘picking-up’ subconscious but overwhelming emotions, which you sense are not yours (or even if they are) know they too will pass.

So while this is a moon where one could be easily swept away by a song and dance, sound or gesture, there are other important celestial factors to consider; because this Pisces Moon is also with its' oceanic ruler Neptune, and  wounded-healer, Chiron, plus Black Moon Lilith - a celestial marker I tend only to work with when face-to-face with clients, as she is the symbol of the repressed frustration we feel when the good we want to see from a very tricky situation is slow (or absent) in forthcoming.  But Lilith has been whirling backwards and forwards over this Neptune-Chiron conjunction for some time, so I think she’s worth bringing out into the light, as to ignore the potential wrath of the feminine is essentially hazardous. Putting all these astrological pointers together from the global perspective one might say this moon suggests an underlying deep disturbance concerning the element of water. All we have to do is look around and see floods in Pakistan (where a fifth of the country is underwater), China, flash floods in Europe, not to mention the state of the Gulf of Mexico, and we get a pretty good idea of the healing that our suffering planet needs. Which is where you and I come in - and right now!

Water responds to thoughts, emotions and intentions.  We have had many successful group meditations that have a direct impact upon the health of our seas, oceans, lakes, river and ponds, courtesy my dear Lama, the late venerable Kirti Tsenshab Rinpoche, Dr Emoto, Lynn McTaggart, and the Medicine for the Earth Shaman’s led by Sandra Ingerman, among many others.  We now know that giving our love and thanks to the water and asking for forgivness, has a transformational affect upon h2O – for the better. Amazing to know how our love creates such purity. So with the sensitive Moon in magical Pisces, a sign that harmonises unseen energy, I say let’s do it over the next few days, and send out the cosmic love vibration directly to our world’s water – we are, after all made up of 75% water ourselves. By saying prayers and our practice near water, our own negative emotions may be assuaged as well.

And as both Pisces and Neptune are symbolic of our dreams, together we can vision the healing to be pure, all pervading, from the depths of our oceans bubbling up through to the light, cleansing, healing and soothing.We also have the Sun in Virgo's hands-on remedial touch to help us - not to mention that in esoteric astrology, Virgo is ruled by the Moon (instead of Mercury).
